Vibrating Screen Selection Guide

This guide helps a buyer choose a vibrating screen by task, by application direction, and by screening behaviour. It does not choose a screen on the buyer's behalf, and it does not publish aperture figures, size figures, or a specification table. It orders the questions that turn a screening question into a brief the supplier can answer.

Start with the task, not with a screen name

Selection starts with the task. A buyer should first describe the material being screened and the setting it is screened in, before naming any screen. The material description should cover size in general terms, flow, dampness, and whether the material tends to cling or to wear a surface. The setting description should cover the handling chain: what happens before screening, what happens after it, and where screening sits among crushing, separation, and beneficiation.

A task description written that way narrows the field honestly. It rules out screens that cannot handle the feed, and it keeps screens that might suit the task in play until behaviour is compared. A buyer who starts with a screen name instead may defend that name against evidence, rather than testing it against the task. The guide therefore insists on task first, name second.

Narrow by application direction

After the task, narrow by application direction. Mining screening handles material from mineral extraction in large volumes, mineral screening applications cover the wider processing set, and coal processing handles coal with damp material as part of the task. Each direction asks something different of a screen, and a screen that suits one direction may behave differently in another.

A buyer whose task spans two directions should read both application pages and carry both directions into the inquiry. Narrowing by direction is not the same as choosing a screen: it reduces the field to the lines published for that direction, and behaviour comparison then reduces it further. A shortlist built direction by direction is more reliable than a shortlist built from a single page.

Compare screens on behaviour, not on figures

Comparison on this site is behavioural, because the supplier website does not publish item-by-item figures for this line. Compare how each screen separates, how it sheds material that clings, how it wears under the feed, and how it is maintained. A screen that separates cleanly with dry material may blind with damp material, and a screen that wears slowly under one mineral may wear quickly under another.

Behavioural comparison requires an honest feed description. A buyer who describes only size leaves out the behaviours that most affect choice, while a buyer who describes flow, dampness, clinging, and wear gives the comparison something to work with. The questions section below lists those feed questions in order, so the comparison can be made on a full description rather than on a partial one.

Bring panels into the comparison

A screen comparison that ignores panels is incomplete, because the panel is the surface that meets the material. A polyurethane panel, a rubber panel, and a self-cleaning surface each behave differently under the same feed, and the screen comparison should be made for a screen-and-panel combination, not for a screen alone. The panel pages describe those surfaces, and the comparison page for polyurethane and rubber panels sets two of them side by side.

A buyer should therefore carry a panel shortlist alongside the screen shortlist, and should name both in the inquiry. A screen that suits the task with one panel material may suit it less well with another, and the supplier can only answer about the combination if the combination is named. The panel selection guide covers panel comparison in fuller terms.

Turn the shortlist into a brief

A shortlist is not an order, and it is not an inquiry either. The shortlist becomes a brief when it is joined to a task description, a direction, a set of behaviours compared, and a set of questions about availability, certificates, and timing. The inquiry checklist page gathers those elements into a brief, and the inquiry page carries the form through which the brief is sent.

A brief written that way gives the supplier a task to answer, and it usually produces a reply that addresses the actual task. A brief that names only a screen, without a task or a direction, will usually produce a general description of a line. The difference between those two outcomes is the work this guide exists to do.

Mistakes this guide helps a buyer avoid

One mistake is choosing by name before describing the task, which defends a name against evidence rather than testing it. Another is comparing screens on figures the supplier has not published, which invents a comparison that cannot be checked. A third is ignoring panels, which compares screens without the surface that meets the material. A fourth is ignoring the chain, which chooses a screen without knowing what the crusher before it produces or what beneficiation after it expects.

Each of those mistakes is avoidable by following the order in this guide: task, direction, behaviour, panels, brief. A buyer who follows that order will arrive at the inquiry with a task, a direction, a shortlist, and a set of questions, rather than with a name chosen in advance. That position is the best starting point for a supplier reply.
