Screen Panel Selection Guide

This guide helps a buyer choose a screen panel by material, by form, by machine, and by feed. It does not choose a panel on the buyer's behalf, and it does not publish aperture figures, thickness figures, hardness figures, or a specification table. It orders the questions that turn a panel question into a brief the supplier can answer.

Start with the panel task, not with a material name

Selection starts with the panel task. A buyer should first describe the screening task the panel will serve, the material being screened, and the setting it is screened in, before naming any panel material. The material description should cover flow, dampness, and whether the material tends to cling or to wear a surface. The setting description should cover the machine the panel will be fitted to and the handling chain around screening.

A task description written that way narrows the field honestly. It rules out panels that cannot handle the feed, and it keeps panels that might suit the task in play until behaviour is compared. A buyer who starts with a material name instead may defend that name against evidence, rather than testing it against the task. The guide therefore insists on task first, name second.

Compare panel materials on behaviour

Comparison on this site is behavioural, because the supplier website does not publish item-by-item figures for panel lines. Compare how each material wears under the feed, how it sheds material that clings, and how it is maintained. A polyurethane surface behaves differently from a rubber surface under the same feed, and a self-cleaning surface behaves differently again when the feed tends to stick.

Behavioural comparison requires an honest feed description. A buyer who describes only size leaves out the behaviours that most affect panel choice, while a buyer who describes flow, dampness, clinging, and wear gives the comparison something to work with. The comparison page for polyurethane and rubber panels sets two materials side by side in those terms, and this guide extends that comparison to panel form and machine fit.

Bring panel form into the comparison

Panel form belongs in the comparison alongside panel material. A panel made for a stack sizer machine serves fine mineral classification, while a general panel serves separation across a wider range of material on a general vibrating screen. A panel form that suits fine classification may not suit coarse separation, and a panel form that suits general separation may not suit fine classification.

A buyer should therefore name the panel form as well as the panel material in the inquiry. The stack sizer panel page describes the stack sizer form, the polyurethane and rubber pages describe their materials, and this guide helps a buyer combine form and material into a shortlist. A shortlist that names both will receive a reply about the combination that will actually be fitted.

Bring machine fit into the comparison

Machine fit belongs in the comparison alongside form and material. A panel must fit the machine it will be fitted to, and fit depends on the machine type as well as on the panel itself. A panel that fits one machine may not fit another, and a panel that fits in general terms may not fit the particular machine in the buyer's setting.

A buyer should therefore name the machine type in the inquiry, together with the panel form and material. That combination — machine, form, material, feed — is what the supplier needs to answer about availability. An inquiry that names only a panel material leaves the supplier to guess at fit, and a guess about fit is not a basis for ordering.

Turn the shortlist into an inquiry brief

A shortlist is not an order, and it is not an inquiry either. The shortlist becomes a brief when it is joined to a task description, a machine type, a set of behaviours compared, and a set of questions about availability, certificates, and timing. The inquiry checklist page gathers those elements into a brief, and the inquiry page carries the form through which the brief is sent.

A brief written that way gives the supplier a task to answer, and it usually produces a reply that addresses the actual task. A brief that names only a panel material, without a task, a form, or a machine, will usually produce a general description of a line. The difference between those two outcomes is the work this guide exists to do.

Mistakes a buyer can avoid with this guide

One mistake is choosing by material before describing the task, which defends a material against evidence rather than testing it. Another is comparing panels on figures the supplier has not published, which invents a comparison that cannot be checked. A third is ignoring panel form, which compares materials without the form they will take. A fourth is ignoring machine fit, which chooses a panel without knowing whether it fits the machine it will be fitted to.

Each of those mistakes is avoidable by following the order in this guide: task, material behaviour, form, machine fit, brief. A buyer who follows that order will arrive at the inquiry with a task, a form, a machine, and a set of questions, rather than with a material chosen in advance. That position is the best starting point for a supplier reply.
